1. Data Transfer Speed: Ensure the cable supports USB 3.1 Gen 2 or Thunderbolt 4, offering up to 40 Gbps to maximize the hub's data capabilities.(make sure DP alt mode enable.)
2. Power Delivery (with E-Marker chip): Opt for a cable that can manage the same or higher wattage as the original, ensuring efficient charging for your MacBook Air. (Should compatible with your host device's original charger)

Since the hub itself will drain a little bit power, it will deliver actual 86 Wattage when you charge with your 96w apple charger.

And, uni USB C Hub support Power Delivery 2.0 pass-through, up to 100W, backward compatibility with 96W, 87W, 61W, 45W, 30W, 18W, etc. So the answer is this hub support 96w charger and all the lower wattage chargers.
